LASU final year students resume Sept. 14th, others resume Nov. 9th & Jan. 2021

  The Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos State has disclosed that only the final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students will resume on September 14 while the other levels will resume on November 9 and Jan 11th, 2021.  In a statement signed by the Coordinator, Centre for Information, Press and Public Relations, Ademola Adekoya, final year students at the undergraduate level would have their lecture hours from 9.00am to 3.00pm, Monday to Friday while postgraduate students; (Masters and Ph.D.) would have their lectures only at weekends. Part of the statment reads, “200 to 500 level students will commence academic activities on Monday 9th November 2020 while lectures for newly admitted students (100 levels) will commence on Monday 11th January 2021. NANS rejects new petrol price, asks the president to reverse it or resign

 The National Association of Nigerian Students (Zone D) has rejected the increase in pump price of petrol. The coordinator of NANS Zone D, Kowe Odunayo Amos described the increment as punishment to Nigerians considering the current economic hardship in the country due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The students’ body, therefore, asked President Muhammadu Buhari and his cabinet members to reverse the pump price or resign. A statement made available by the students' body reads, “We find it most embarrassing to read of the increment in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to N163. This is in addition to the 300% increment in electricity tariff. NANS Commends Ondo State Governor over reduction of fees in AAUA

  The South-West zone of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has applauded the Ondo State governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, over the reduction in school fees of the state-owned Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba  Akoko. According to the association, this decision by the Governor shows that he listens to his people, adding that the reduction would go a long way to reduce the burden of the students and their parents despite the political meaning being attached to the reduction of the tuition fees. The students however, called on the governor to also extend the same gestures to three other higher institutions in the state namely; UNIMED, OAUSTECH and RUGIPO and urged the governing councils of the three schools to meet with the governor to see to the reduction of fees. Kogi State Government announces resumption date for schools

  The Kogi State Government has announced that schools at all levels in the state will be resuming September 14th, 2020. This announcement was made by the State’s Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, at a press briefing on Tuesday in Lokoja. It was gathered that the decision was made after series of interactions with the relevant stakeholders and assessment of both private and public schools in the state to ascertain their level of preparedness and safety for reopening of schools from COVID-19 break. The commissioner however, advised and encouraged all heads of every school to ensure full compliance with the COVID-19 protocols which had been clearly set out by the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19. Tertiary institutions in Delta State gear up to resume September 21st

 Tertiary institutions in Delta State are gearing up to reopen on September 21, 2020. According to government sources, the date was agreed on following a meeting by the state governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, with stakeholders including COVID-19 management team. A top government official said, “We have agreed to reopen before September end. So far, we have agreed tentatively on September 21.  I can assure you that our schools will reopen in Delta State in September. Governor Okowa will announce it when all arrangements are completed." Also, a commissioner in the state, who did not want his name in print, said “our schools are resuming in September.”
